An area where an explosible atmosphere exists at all time or occasionally. IEC Publication 79-10 breaks down such areas into the following zones:

Zone 0 – explosible atmosphere exists constantly or for a long time

Zone 1 – explosible atmosphere exists occasionally

Zone 2 – explosible atmosphere exists rarely and then for a short time only
