Leakage detector, Fluidcontroller (a BURGMANN designation). A patented special-purpose instrument (DBP 3520748) for the permanent recording, evaluation and control of fluids, e.g. a mechanical seal's leakage. The measuring range extends from 0.001 to 10 litres per hour.

Mode of operation (see the schematic drawing): The liquid to be measured is directed into the quantity sensor. On reaching a preset level, a float and proximity switch arrangement in the measuring chamber triggers a signal. The liquid is now expelled (back into the system or for some other further use) by means of compressed air actuated by a solenoid valve. The sequence is repeated continuously. The liquid flow is calculated from the interval between two signals.
