This term is not clearly defined. In the broadest sense it embraces the complete industrial unit for mechanical mixing of substances as uniformly as possible to aid dissolving, suspension, precipitation, dispersion, heating, cooling etc. In the narrow sense the term agitator designates the components from the drive motor to the agitation mechanism. Agitators are installed in open and closed vessels, tanks and tubs.
