Voltages (electrochemical series) is a listing of chemical elements in ascending order of standard potential. The further apart two elements are in the electrochemical series, the greater the risk of contact corrosion and – in the absence of an electrolyte – of gap corrosion. Values in the practical electrochemical series (determined in defined electrolytes) can differ greatly from the standard potentials, whose reference variable (zero) is the normal hydrogen electrode.
