The shut-down pressure at the mechanical seal of the reserve pump often exceeds the working sealing pressure, in many cases it equals the discharge pressure of the working pump. If the reserve pump is equipped with a double mechanical seal, the buffer fluid pressure must exceed the maximum possible shut-down pressure.
