Characteristic feature of the face-to-face arrangement are the confronting sliding faces of the two spring-backed seal faces, which usually run against a common stationary seat installed either as rotating or stationary type. The arrangement with a rotating seat is the preferred choice for high-speed (sliding velocity > 25 m/s) double mechanical seals. The arrangement with a stationary seat is selected occasionally when in a single mechanical seal with quench the quenching medium has to be sealed by a mechanical seal. |
