Filters | ||
As components of buffer fluid units and buffer fluid circuits, filters prevent solid particles of unacceptable size entering the mechanical seal. Depending on the mesh width, rate of flow, the medium and the degree of contamination, filters must not be underestimated as factors of flow resistance in the system. A filter's contamination can be monitored by means of a differential pressure switch (refer also to magnetic filter and bypass) The sieve insert can be a disposable type or reusable after cleaning. Commonly used filter materials are paper, sintered materials, plastic fibres and metal gauze. The filter insert must be protected by a supporting sieve on the inside, outside or on both sides, depending on the material properties and direction of flow.
