Radial shaft lip seals | ||
Radial shaft lip seals for general mechanical engineering are standardized in DIN 3760 (April 1972). Shaft lip seals are sealing dements manufactured mostly from elastomer materials and featuring an axial sealing gap ".. to seal rotating shafts and cavities with a low pressure differential." The above quotation and table are taken from DIN 3760. Section 5.2 of this standard deals with the chemical and thermal stability of the elastomer part of a shaft lip seal but does not specify any correction factors for its pressure loadability under the action of heat. Shaft lip seals made of non-elastomers, e.g. those made of PTFE, are not covered by DIN 3760. Shaft lip seals are employed as components in mechanical seal systems to protect rolling bearings in agitator seals and to seal pressureless quench fluids. |
