Welcome to the BURGMANN Sealing World
Artifical carbon

Artifical carbon is produced from coke, graphite, carbon black and anthracite in combination with binding agents such as e.g. coal tar pitch or synthetic resin. The mixture is pressed into mouldings and fired at 1,300°C. The 10 ... 30% porosity caused by coking of the binding agent during the firing is reduced to between 1 and 2% by an impregnation. Depending on the mixing ratio of the raw materials used, a distinction is drawn between the following types:
hard burnt carbon
= 100% carbon, 0% graphite
carbon graphite
= 40... 60% carbon, 60 ... 40% graphite
electrographite
= 0% carbon, 100% graphite
